What began as a one-person venture has grown into a world-renowned architecture practice grounded in humanistic values, a reverence for craft, and a deep respect for the environments we inhabit. Founded in Los Angeles by Michael Kovac in 1988 and now led in partnership with Managing Partner Thomas Schneider, the studio’s evolution has been shaped by our longtime commitment to providing a highly personalized design approach that puts people first.

Today, our work spans across the country, from the rolling hills of Wine Country to the deserts of the Southwest, peaks of the Mountain West, and coastlines of the Northeast, with select commissions abroad. Regardless of location, our approach remains the same: deeply personal, environmentally attuned, and driven by the unique character of each client and site. Our work has been recognized by the AIA, Architizer, and ArchDaily, and featured in Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, Wallpaper*, Galerie, Robb Report, and The Wall Street Journal amongst others.

Executive Architecture

We collaborate with select visionary designers across the globe to provide architecture of record services. Through dedicated leadership and an intimate knowledge of the local landscape and building codes, we help execute concepts into built spaces of enduring quality. Our partners have included John Pawson, Peter Zumthor, Vincent Van Duysen, Ferguson & Shamamian, Studio MK27, and Foster + Partners amongst others.
