Mid Century Home Los Angeles

Exterior of home

Originally dreaming of moving into a treehouse, our client found the next best option: a 1953 post-and-beam residence nestled in the serene enclave of Brentwood’s Mandeville Canyon, set to undergo a sophisticated mid-century transformation.

The owner was first captivated by the property’s innate charm, a quality preserved in the updated design. Honoring midcentury roots, the design prioritizes simplicity and functionality. Glass walls and skylights were thoughtfully introduced to harness natural light while cultivating a seamless connection with the lush surroundings. The thoughtful renovations created an open spatial flow in the home, updating a dated layout. The home’s narrative strikes a delicate balance between openness and warmth, seamlessly blending with the tranquil beauty of its natural setting.

“I had this fantasy of [moving] into a treehouse”

“I really like joyful space,” she says. The multi-person collaboration turned out just that: a vibrant, expressive, storied living space that perfectly reflects her. Says Dern, “I loved dollhouses growing up, and it does feel like a dollhouse where you’re always looking in to something magical, like a treasure box.”
